English Essentials Summer Camp gave me an unforgettable memory in 2010. I have received a lot from this summer camp: friendship, gifts, English, success, etc. But most of all I have learned team unity. I have always liked to work by myself. I enjoyed sinking into my own thoughts. I always believed that a thinker like me should be thinking above others rather than with them. During camp, there was a prize given every day for the cleanest guys’ room and cleanest girls’ room. I found that I was really upset when our room lost the reward of cleanest dorm room. Then our “dorm dad,” George, came to me and shared with me the importance of team unity. When I realized that team unity would help to improve the cleanness of our whole dormitory and win the cleanest dorm room prize, my thinking changed! Suddenly I realized just how important team unity is. After that I was not upset any more. I started to share the work of cleaning. I even gave suggestions to my team about how to get the cleanest classroom award. When it was announced that our team, Surge, won the cleanest classroom award, we all cheered our team name together in English! At that moment I understood, we won not because of me but because of our team unity. Even though I am not happy that we lost at the final competition, I am definitely not sad. Our team tried, cried, and laughed together. We brought team spirit into play. In the past few days, I have learned the precious lesson of team unity, and my English has improved as well. I find I can talk to foreigners with more confidence than before. And, I got to know some friends from different countries and become more familiar with western culture. Now summer camp has finished, and I’ve started the rest of summer vacation. Real life has started. But what I learned from summer camp, I am taking with me – to strengthen me to face my real life. |
