Dragon Boat Day (Duan Wu Jie) Relay Race

On May 28th, Life Pegs held a Dragon Boat Day (Duan Wu Jie) Relay Race at Jingyue Tan Park. We were so happy to welcome sixty-three members from China and other countries attending this activity.

There were two parts of the Giant Race: the relay race and picnic. Members were divided into six groups, each group being told to stay together all the time in a rope circle. Life Peg’s American counselor Marianne first gave a brief introduction of the race. And then each team was given an activity list. The rule was that whichever group accomplished five of the activities first would be the winners. With the sound of a whistle, the race began! All six groups could be seen struggling to stay inside the rope circle while walking quickly towards their first activity.

The activities of the relay race included collecting 10 signatures from strangers, rolling tires on a marked path, walking while balancing a cup of water, tossing an egg twenty times without breaking it, and finally, the boating race! All members enjoyed a delicious Dragon Boat Festival picnic beside the lake at Jinyue Tan provided by Life Pegs.

After the race, a member called Sun Lixin said, “I have learned that team spirit is really important to make things work because we had to work together as a team to accomplish any of the activities. We have to be willing to listen to each other and trust each other to accomplish the goal!”And another member called Pan Yufeng said, “I have learned that as a team, we have to be united and we have to have a clear division of work.”

In a word, members learned valuable lessons in teamwork while enjoying a fun Chinese festival day and sweet friendship with each other as Life Pegs members.
