Though rock climbing is generally a risky sport which demands physical strength and endurance, it poses a different kind of challenge, excitement, and adrenaline rush. This is probably one of the many reasons why a lot of people are so enthusiastic about this activity.

There are several ways to categorize rock climbing. For instance, it can vary based on the area you are climbing. Using this category, its types include: outdoor climbing (mainly climbing up natural rock formations) and indoor climbing (mainly climbing up artificial rock walls). According to styles, it includes: free climbing (climbing on holds made entirely of natural rock, using gear solely for protection and not for upward movement), aid climbing (climbing using equipment that act as artificial hand- or footholds), top roping (climbing with the protection of a rope that's already suspended through an anchor at the top of a route), and sport climbing(climbing involving the use of protection or permanent anchors which are attached to the rock walls).
